If you ask the band they’ll tell you that no individual owns this namesake. Formerly known as Vaness aLegacy, V.A. has never existed and never will – as a member of the band, anyways.
The founding members of the band didn’t want to be just any regular rock band. Nor did they want to be the next hot fling in pop circles. They wanted to create their own distinctive sound, one that incorporates both influences.
The sound takes the predominant flavours of the band; Pop and rock, and transforms it into one seamless sound. It is the sum of all the personalities that is V.A. night in and out; whether performing in one of Toronto’s more well-known venues or finding the right balance on a new jam till the early hours of the morning.
The face of the band is a raucous and energetic fireball named Vaness; whose delicate soulful vocals and raw punk attitude pulls the audience in while playing with their cheaky - overall presence. Add the pulsating sounds of the rhythm section with some heavy melodic guitar riffs and you start to understand the essence of V.A.
The band has played all over the city of Toronto sharing their unique sound at Canadian Music Week, The Opera House, Alleycats, Mod Club, college and university campuses as well as coffee shops - any where they can get people up and moving. V.A. leaves the crowd pumped up and begging for more.
Every band member was born and raised in Canada; however, based out of the multicultural center Toronto, their parents roots are a mix of Italian and Jamaican. It is the mixing of their cultures that inspired the groups signature sound and image.
The band has spent time to figure out how they want to speak and portray their message, which can only mean these next few years will begin to really carve out V.A. spot in the music scene. And that’s exactly what these 5 members had agreed upon not so long ago – to begin writing a legacy of their own.
“In a world of producer driven pop where every act sounds the same, V.A. is the freshest artist I've heard in a long time. The combination of talent and unforced fusion of rock and urban is the future!!”
- Orin Isaacs (Musical Director for Canadian Idol)
